Charles Keali’i Amoy was located and arrested in the University area at about 6 p.m. Friday.
Residents of a Waialae apartment building are still in shock after their home turned into a crime scene.
"[We] got woken up by the police lights and the fire trucks and ambulance and sirens," says neighbor Cody Kreuziger.
Their neighbor, who they call Aunty Aileen, had been stabbed multiple times.
The suspect is her grandson — 19-year-old Charles Keali’i Amoy.
Neighbors heard the screams of the 70-year-old woman around 1 a.m. and rushed to her apartment to help.
"So he went upstairs, he saw him standing over Aunty and when he tried to stop him, that’s when he jumped off the second floor out the back door," says neighbor Peter Pulido.
Amoy was last seen jumping into a nearby drainage canal.
Neighbors helped the woman until an ambulance arrived. She was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.
She told police that she was stabbed by her grandson.
"Just last night, though, we ate dinner with Aunty Aileen. Earlier in the day, we was playing ukulele with Keali’i, so it was kind of surprising," says Pulido.
Neighbors say Amoy had recently moved in with his grandmother and was attending college.
Police say they found the weapons used at the scene, but are not sure if Amoy was still armed.
The motive is unknown.
