The race for Honolulu Mayor will likely be the most closely watched of the election.
With nearly 24 hours before the polls close, both Ben Cayetano and Kirk Caldwell remain cautiously optimistic.
It is a fight to the finish between the two candidates vying for Honolulu’s top job.
Ben Cayetano joined his supporters in sign waving efforts across the island.
"On the ground we feel a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of support and I think that really has uplifted our campaign," said Cayetano.
Meanwhile Kirk Caldwell spent the day with his team on a trolly ride rallying for votes.
"I think it will be close, so I’m taking nothing for granted, I’m out all day long today and again tomorrow," said Caldwell.
Separate polls differ on which candidate has the bigger lead going into Tuesday, and both are counting on voters who picked Peter Carlisle in the Primary to now support them in the General.
"I’m not assuming anything here, i’m not assuming I can pick up his (Carlisle’s) votes, I need to earn his votes if you believe the polls we’ve been seeing every one of the polls whether i’m ahead or not show me climbing and part of that is getting the votes of Peter’s supporters," said Caldwell.
"I think he will pick up some because most people voted for Peter because he was for rail, but I think probably 15%-20% voted for him because for other reasons, we have some of those people coming over to us," Cayetano stated.
Cayetano believes a big turnout at the polls will prove in his favor. While, Caldwell says he feels momentum heading into the home stretch.
