AAA Hawaii – Gas prices in Hawaii declined significantly again this past week throughout the islands, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
On Thursday, the statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.17 a gallon, 17 cents less than a week ago.
The average price in Honolulu is $4.03 per gallon, 18 cents less than last week, 40 cents less than a month ago and 59 cents higher than this time last year.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.10 a gallon, 14 cents less than last week, 45 cents less than last month and 54 cents more than this time last year.
Wailuku’s average is $4.64 a gallon, 14 cents less than last week, 25 cents less than last month and 75 cents more than on this date last year.
“Three weeks since the largest one-week drop in crude oil prices in NYMEX history, and two weeks after a 10 percent decline in wholesale gasoline prices, Hawaii drivers are seeing significant relief at the pump,” said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. “Leading into the Memorial Day weekend holiday, continued prices declines at this pace could bring under $4 a gallon gasoline to Honolulu and Hilo.”
AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch is a weekly snapshot of gasoline prices. Price comparisons are offered as a service. Prices are derived from fleet vehicle credit card transactions at more than 100,000 stations around the country. Prices shown are combined averages of last card swipe of previous day.
