The Bishop Museum flipped the switch to solar power this afternoon.
A ten-thousand square foot photovoltaic system is now generating enough power for three buildings.
It has 720 solar panels located on the roof and grounds of the museum.
"This is the first piece in an overall energy initiative it’ll reduce our energy bill and take it off the grid by about 10 percent," said Blair Collis. "That doesn’t seem like a lot but is a big thing for a institution that has to run electricity nonstop because of the collections care."
The museum will incorporate the new solar system in its learning tools and programs.
