Located on the corner of Fort Weaver Road and Keaunui Drive, across from the Hawaii Prince Golf Club, the new store will feature Safeway’s “Lifestyle” format with its own prepared food offerings—including sushi, sandwiches and hot soups.
“We are excited to open our 20th store in Hawaii and start a long-lasting relationship with the Ewa community on Oahu,” said George Glukfeld, Hawaii district manager. “Ewa residents no longer have to drive to Kapolei to shop for groceries and essentials, and this new store will exceed the expectations of our Leeward Oahu shoppers.”
The new 24 hour store is the anchor tenant at the 20-acre Laulani Village Shopping Center. Safeway in Ewa will employ approximately 150 people.
Customers will also enjoy other amenities such as an in-store Bank of Hawaii branch and 70 stand-alone establishments in the parking area, including home improvement, hardware, apparel, lifestyle and restaurants. A two-story office building will provide additional space for doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants and other professionals.
The Safeway Foundation will also make a special presentation and donations totaling $5,000 to Ewa Weed and Seed and Keone’ula Elementary School. The Safeway Foundation focuses its philanthropic efforts on causes such as hunger relief, education, health and human services, and people with special needs. The foundation is able to support these causes thanks to the generous contributions of Safeway employees and customers.
With the addition of the new Safeway store at Laulani Village Shopping Center, Safeway will have 14 locations on Oahu and 20 statewide. Other store locations include three on Maui, two on Hawaii Island, and one on Kauai.
