A fence built to protect native plants and animals at Kaena Point is apparently working.
The fence was installed last year.
Since then, the Department of Land and Natural Resources says there has been a record number of wedge-tailed shearwater seabirds hatching at the reserve.
The population grew from about 1500 in 2007 to more than 3200 this year.
There’s also been an increase in the laysan albatross population.
