Overcast skies expected through Christmas

Localized land breezes will develop tonight as the east southeast low level flow across the islands begins to shift easterly.

Showers will continue to favor windward and southeast slopes through Monday as high clouds thicken from west to east.

Overcast conditions along with higher rainfall chances are in store for Christmas.

An increasingly stable trade wind flow will return on Wednesday.

HIGH SURF: High surf advisory until 6 am HST Monday for east facing shores of Maui and the Big Island.

SURF: Surf along north facing shores will be 8 to 10 feet today, dropping to 3 to 5 feet Monday.

Surf along east facing shores will be 5 to 7 feet today, dropping to 2 to 4 feet Monday.

Surf along west facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet today, diminishing to 1 to 3 feet Monday.

Surf along south facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet today, decreasing to 1 to 3 feet Monday.

Outlook through Saturday Dec 29: a new northwest swell arriving Monday night will peak above the advisory level on Christmas day, then gradually lower through Thursday.

Similar northwest swells are expected to peak Thursday night and Saturday night.
