People are still in shock over Friday’s random shooting spree.
The North Shore community has been devastated and saddened by the tragic events. The North Shore Christian Fellowship came together Sunday morning for a special service. Their Senior Pastor, Mike Stangel, is the father of the alleged gunman, Toby Stangel.
"In Romans 12, God’s word says ‘rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those weep’," said Bob Prasser, North Shore Christian Fellowship Elder.
"We’re grieving, crying out lord what do we do," said Jason Simpson, NSCF church Pastor.
Unable to make sense of what happened, the church gathered in small groups to pray.
"We’re dumb-founded Lord, why did this happen, why did this happen here, why did it happen to….why did it happen to the mom?" said Simpson.
They prayed for 54 year-old Tammy Nguyen, a wife and mother of ten, who was killed after being shot in her van in Kaimuki.
"Why does that husband have to wake up this morning without his wife…why did those kids have their mom stolen from them?" said Simpson.
They also prayed for the other two victims who remain in the hospital from single gunshot wounds: 24 year-old Amie Asuncion and 38 year-old Samson Naupoto.
And they also prayed for their Pastor, his wife Karen and the entire Stangel family.
"They do not at any point think this was an OK act," said Simpson. "And this morning, as we pray, I’m going to ask you to do something that some people on the outside aren’t going to get. As we pray for the Stangel family, Toby is a Stangel," said Simpson.
Pastor Mike Stangel and his wife Karen were not at the service. They were in California on vacation when the shooting happened, and have decided to stay with family there for support.
