A 40-year-old man says he was cleaning his rifle in his living room when it accidentally discharged and injured his three-year-old son.
According to Honolulu Police, the incident happened Saturday in a Salt Lake residence.
The man told officers that the round his the ceiling and a piece of the shrapnel hit his child.
Police arrested the man for reckless endangering.
He was later released from police custody.
