Man gets prison time for burglary, misuse of 911 call

A man KHON2 featured a few weeks ago on Hawaii’s Most Wanted will spend more than three years behind bars.

Walter Hao pleaded no contest to burglary in connection with an April 2012 incident in Kaimuki.

Prosecutors say this wasn’t a typical burglary.

"In this case, when this defendant was arrested, the arresting officer was going through his phone and realized there was a 911 call made from his cell phone," Deputy Prosecutor Marina Heung said.

"I just want you to know that I am very sorry for the things that I’ve done and I want to own up to this," Hao said.

Judge Karen Ahn sentenced Hao to 10 years in prison.

Hao must serve a mandatory minimum of three years and four months because he is a repeat felon.
