Quick action by neighbors prevented a Hawaii Kai home from going up in flames Friday evening.
Fire crews were called to Koko Isle Circle just before 6:00 p.m.
It started in a dumpster located in the carport of the unoccupied home.
Several neighbors who saw what was going on grabbed their garden hoses to prevent the fire from spreading.
"I thought they were shooting up through the carport. They were very high. When I did come out after I called 911 and the fire department, I realized they were fairly contained", said neighbor Ann McCrary
Damage is estimated at $5,000.
It’s not yet known what started the fire.
