Kawaii Kon draws record crowd

Anime fans of all shapes and sizes are at the Hawaii Convention Center this weekend for Kawaii Kon.

In it’s 9th year Kawaii Kon celebrates Japanese animation known as anime and all that goes along with it.

Attendees can meet and see, voice actors, Japanese artists and even one of the original power rangers.

Organizers say the convention was created out of necessity.

"Anime is part of Hawaii culture. We have a large Japanese contingency here. So its like we’ve been used to it. But we’ve never had our own show. But we’ve had to go to the mainland to attend the show. So having Kawaii Kon here makes it easier for us to go attend the show and have fun," said Kawaii Kon founder Stan Dahlin

Kawaii Kon is growing.

Last year they had about 7,000 guests. They are expecting close to 9,000 this year.

The fun goes until 11:30 p.m. Saturday and continues at 10 a.m. Sunday.
