Community celebrates groundbreaking for new Aiea library

There was a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the new Aiea library.

The new facility will be bigger and have more parking than the old one and it’ll have free wifi.

The community has dreamed of this since the 1990s.

"It was hard to get people to rally around something and this library and this whole piece of property actually gave us a focus," said Aiea Community Association president Claire Tamamoto.

"Hopefully it means a better education for the children and more opportunities for the local community," said John Martinez, parent.

The old Aiea library will stay open until the new one opens which should be sometime next year.
