Fashion retailer H&M coming to Waikiki

International fashion retailer H&M announced it will debut its first-ever Hawaii store.

The Swedish retailer says the new store will open at the Waikiki Business Plaza on Kalakaua Avenue.

"Since opening our first American store in 2000, H&M has been committed to opening in the best new locations across the United States," U.S. President for H&M Daniel Kulle said. "The U.S. is one of the largest expansion markets for the company worldwide, and we are thrilled to begin 2014 with such an important new store in Honolulu."

Officials say the three-story, 31,000-square-foot store will feature a major entrance at the corner of Seaside and Kalakaua Avenues.

The U.S. has been one of H&M’s most important markets since the company opened its first store on New York’s famed Fifth Avenue 13 years ago.

The Waikiki location is expected to open in 2014.
