The IRS recently announced that it has a total of $917 million for those who have not filed a 2009 income tax return.
For Hawaii, this encompasses an estimated 7,200 residents with a median potential refund of $599 — totaling $7.4 million in unclaimed HI refunds.
In order to collect the money, you must file a return for 2009 with the IRS no later than April 15, 2013.
There is no penalty for filing a late return qualifying for a refund.
