Oahu’s rail funding is on track despite federal budget cuts.
That’s the word from US Senator Brian Schatz, who spoke with the head of the Federal Transportation Administration on Tuesday.
But the senator also says if the current Congressional budget impasse is not resolved, funding could be delayed.
"Any reduction coming out of this year would be made up for in future years so that the full
$1.55 billion that’s been committed by the federal government will be provided to the City and County of Honolulu for the rail project," explained Shatz.
The full funding grant for rail has not yet been executed.
If the agreement is signed, it will be up to Congress to decide on payments over five-years.
