The first thing visitors will notice, what the employees are calling "the Big White Wall."
"In addition to all the smaller projects we have going on inside the building, this is the big news. The closure of the main lobby entrance to Castle. Behind the big white wall is the hospital sort of affectionately call it, we have quite a construction project going on," says facility planner Jacob Hutchason.
Is Castle still operating at a hundred percent?
"Oh, absolutely. Other than a little bit of altered traffic flow, the hospital hasn’t changed. We haven’t had any resources or departments, procedures go down. For the hospital, it’s business as usual," Hutchason says.
We asked Jacob about the reason for the renovations.
"There’s two ways to look at it – aesthetically, the hospital is getting just dramatically upgraded. The Castle that you’re going to come into in the next few months – it’s just a really beautiful place to receive health care. In addition to that though, this the outpatient clinic, we’re upgrading our technology as far as things like bone density scanning and mammography," he says.
The renovations also include medical updates in addition to the physical plant. There will be emphasis on early detection and there will be more emergency room beds to accommodate residents on the windward side. And one more word of caution for those coming to the hospital.
"Be aware that the lobby entrance that you might be used to is closed. As you can see, we’ve extended the patient drop off area so you shouldn’t feel too much impact," Hutchason says.
And that should make families feel more secure.
