APEC committee selects businesses for showcase

Thirty five Hawaii businesses have been selected for the 2011 Hawai‘i Business Innovation Showcase.

The APEC Hawai‘i Host Committee partnered with the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i County, the City and County of Honolulu, Maui County and Hawai‘i County to make the selections.

The finalists, six on Hawai‘i Island, three on Kaua‘i, six on Maui and 20 on O‘ahu, will receive Recognition of Excellence awards from their respective county.  In addition, a winner from each county and one overall statewide winner will be selected Sept. 6, and will receive recognition at various APEC 2011 Hawai‘i programs, as well as through other media opportunities.

Announced in May, the Showcase provides an unprecedented opportunity for businesses registered in the state to showcase innovation in products and services to an international audience during APEC 2011 Leaders’ Week, and will recognize leading edge innovation and achievement in Hawai‘i’s business community.

The APEC 2011 Leaders’ Week will take place in Honolulu on Nov. 7-13 with the Leaders’ Meeting on Nov. 12 and 13, and is the culmination of a series of events held throughout the year in the United States. The Leaders’ Meeting is expected to attract approximately 20,000 attendees including the leaders of the 21 APEC member economies, ministers, business leaders and news media.
