One of the original tenants of Ala Moana Center is closing its store on Dec. 13.
Foodland, located on the ground floor mauka side, decided not to renew its lease. It was up in January 2015.
Sheryl Toda, Foodland’s director of corporate communications, said the Ala Moana market could not keep up with the challenges and costs of operating at the shopping center.
All 66 of the store’s employees have been notified of the closing and will be offered jobs at other Oahu stores.
The Ala Moana Foodland first opened on Aug. 13, 1959. It was originally located in the area that is now the center’s food court until its move to its present location in 1986.
The market went through two renovations in 1995 and 2007.
