Mother daughter duo debut on itunes

A  mother daughter duo has been making music for years…now the honolulu residents have signed a record deal and hope to take their music and message to the world.

It’s obvious these two musicians were born with talent.

“I grew up playing violin and I was in choir through out my middle school and elementary,” said Jasmine Skurtu.

" I started when I was 13, I started writing songs taught my self guitar,” said her mother, Marlene Jones-Skurtu.

This mother daughter duo started playing music together ten years ago when they both decided to attend U.H. Manoa…after graduating with music degrees they began gigging – together, they are Nightbloom.

“We’ve been called the Judds but I think we play guitar a little bit better than them,” said Jasmine.

The 28 year-old daughter alongside her 56 year-old mom live in Honolulu and recently signed a record deal with Tate Music Group.

The pair mailed in a song titled "Give me a sign" to the label.

“I was like this is like my sign you know as we said give me a sign is the song we sent in and they accepted us they wanted us."

The dynamic duo play contemporary island music, gospel and flamenco.

They say this record contract is an opportunity to share their music and message of positive thinking with others.

“We want to license it to commercials and film and we want to play places and our goal is really to send our music around the world,” said Marlene.

Marlene is mother of four while Jasmine plays back up for Taimane Gardner and has performed with others including Willie K. she also teaches guitar privately and at UH but her favorite job is performing with her mom.

“And you know we will have a little bickering but we love each other so much we are never going to break up we’ll always be together."

Their first full length album Come Fall in Love can be found online or on itunes.
