Leeward Oahu residents asked to conserve water because of main break

Board of Water Supply crews are repairing a 24-inch main break on Farrington Hwy., near Kahe Point.

The break was reported about 8:15 Saturday morning. It’s on a transmission main that was installed in 1961 and provides the Leeward coast with about 60 percent of its water supply.

At this time, only Kahe Power Plant is without water and it is undetermined if nearby homes are also impacted by the break.

Since the main will not be in service while crews are making the repair, BWS asks that all residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to use water sparingly and for priority needs only until further notice.

This means using water for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene only.

Repair work is expected to continue through the night.

The work will not affect traffic.
