A new poll shows more people are still against the rail project than are for it

The poll was paid for by pro-rail group Pacific Resource Partnership. It shows 49 percent are opposed to rail while 46 percent support rail. members of the pro rail group point out support for rail has grown 2 percent since january.

"I think people are taking a second look and seeing that rail transit is a solution," said John White of Pacific Resource Partnership.

The latest poll shows rail opponent Ben Cayetano in the lead, but slipping a bit.

A spokeswoman for Mayor Peter Carlisle said: "We are happy that the poll shows people supporting rail… the mayor has never wavered from the first referendum where the people had spoken."

Candidate Kirk Caldwell said: "I’m closing in on each of them because voters are looking for a mayor who will listen to people."
Cayetano said: "PRP has been running a ‘push poll’ to smear me. So I have no confidence that anything it does is credible."
