Accused attacker claims he is deaf

An Oahu judged postponed the initial hearing of a man accused of trying to sexually assault and kidnap a woman.

Ferdinand Bermejo appeared in District Court Friday morning for his initial court appearance to face charges of sex assault and kidnapping.

However, a judge postponed his hearing until Monday after Bermejo claimed he is deaf.

An interpreter will be assigned to him.

Bermejo is accused of following a woman several blocks to Punahou Street before he dragged her and pinned her to the ground.

Three good samaritans heard her screams for help and pulled Bermejo off the woman and held him until police arrived.

Bermejo‘s bail is set at $100,000.
