This is a copy of a fake postal money order hawaii residents have been receiving.
"Over the course of the last couple weeks we’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about these type of postal money orders," says Timothy Caminos, Hawaii Better Business Bureau.
The Hawaii BBB says everything about the postal money orders look real.
"There’s one exception the hologram is not right," says Caminos.
Caminos says thieves are using the postal money orders as a way to scam people out of cash, similar to the check cashing scheme.
"We’ve had families argue tell us that they argued for days over whether this is real or not and finally thankfully they showed it to someone else before they went in and cashed it," says Caminos.
Residents are being targeted after applying for secret shopper jobs on-line or by email being told they have won a prize.
Caminos says the checks are usually around $900.
"And then when that postal check doesn’t clear when it bounces then they’re going to be responsible for all that money that was cashed for," says Caminos.
