State Sheriffs, Honolulu Police and U.S. Marshals all joined forces to put Munet back behind bars.
"The level of cooperation we had during this cooperation was unprecedented, in certainly my career," HPD Maj. Richard Robinson said.
KHON2 News’ exclusive video shows how Munet’s 11 hours of freedom ended face down in the driveway of a Kakaako condo.
"At about 7:30 p.m. we received a tip from a female where the suspect had come up to her. She recognized him from the images she had seen put out through the media and she called it in, gave a very good description of him, and the direction he had taken off in," Maj. Robinson said.
Munet was walking on the sidewalk near 1133 Waimanu Street.
Police say it looked like he was about to run, but thought twice.
"As soon as I saw that, I ran inside and went on to the internet to see if they had caught him and they hadn’t caught him so I wondered, ‘Oh is that the guy?’," witness Del Brown said.
Brown watched the arrest unfold and snapped a picture.
"Kind of spooky he was right there," Brown said.
HPD has not yet questioned Munet on where he hid out.
"Between where he escaped from and Kakaako, for example, there’s probably over a million places for a human being to hide. You’re talking about a major metropolitan city," Maj. Robinson said.
HPD beefed up it’s patrol to 200 officers, helicopter crew, and canine units.
Big credit also goes to the public for their help.
"Our community is and always will be our biggest partner in solving crime and bringing issues like this to a safe end," Maj. Robinson said.
Munet remains in police custody awaiting formal charges.
