Another measure that ends subsidies for Oahu recyclers awaits Mayor Carlisle’s signature.
The bill passed a final vote on Wednesday in the City council.
Last year, the subsidies in the form of tipping fee discounts cost the city $2 million in lost revenue.
One company in particular, Schnitzer Steel Hawaii, benefited the most since it is the largest recycler on the island.
Council members say they may craft another bill to continue subsidies at a lower rate so that recycling efforts continue.
