A ban on burning rubbish in the backyard has been expanded from Oahu to the rest of the state.
Backyard burning" was made illegal on Oahu in 1973, but was still allowed on the neighbor islands.
The State health department says with improved trash and recycling services, backyard burning is no longer a necessity.
Exceptions will be made for agricultural burning, requring a permit through the health department.
Anyone caught burning trash on their property could be fined up to ten thousand dollars.
