Caldwell has already been endorsed by the police and firefighters unions, giving him the support of the largest labor unions representing city workers.
It’s a familiar scenario for Caldwell, who ran in a special election two years ago.
but he says this time there will be a major difference.
"I’m starting a lot sooner, remember I had to wait for Mayor Hannemann to step down and then I had to sprint," says Kirk Caldwell, candidate for Honolulu Mayor.
Caldwell will face Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle and former Governor Ben Cayetano.
In a statement, Cayetano said "Kirk Caldwell is a nice man but he’s never had to make a tough decision during his entire political career. For the HGEA and UPW, Kirk is the perfect candidate."
