A 69-year-old Kealakekua man died Sunday from injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle at a residence in Captain Cook.
The victim was identified as Robert J. Flores, of Kealakekua.
Around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Kona patrol officers were called to the home in Captain Cook.
Police say a 75-year-old Captain Cook man was operating a 1996 Mazda pick-up truck and was reversing towards a residence which he and Flores were repairing. Police say Flores was guiding the driver of the truck to the residence to off load supplies. About 5 feet from the residence, Flores motioned for the driver to stop. Police say the driver apparently hit the accelerator and struck the Flores, pinning him between the truck and the residence.
Flores was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he later died.
Police do not suspect alcohol, drugs or speed in this crash. Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
