If you’ve replaced your car’s air bags recently…beware!
It’s possible the safety device could be counterfeit.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration alerted the industry to the dangers of counterfeit air bags during a press conference in Washington.
Government investigators believe car owners, who’ve had their air bags replaced in the past three years, are at a high risk of having counterfeit air bags installed in their vehicles.
Some of which may have come from China.
They say tens of thousands of car owners may currently be at risk.
"Today, we alert the public to the very real danger of counterfeit bags being sold in the United States, manufactured overseas, fraudulently labeled, and illegally imported into the country. These, seemingly genuine airbags are, in fact, shoddy fakes that pose a significant safety hazard when installed," said U.S. Immigration Director John Morton.
So far, the NHTSA is not aware of any deaths or injuries in connection to these air bags.
