Three more politicians want to be considered for Senator Inouye’s seat.
Ed Case, Esther Kia’aina and Blake Oshiro say they’ve applied for the senate vacancy.
Case is a former congressman. Kia’aina is deputy director of the State DLNR and worked under Neil Abercrombie when he was in congress.
Oshiro is Governor Abercrombie’s deputy chief of staff, and a former state representative.
Democratic party officials say there are at least a dozen applicants so far.
The deadline to apply for the seat is 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24.
Three nominees are expected to be chosen on Wednesday by the democratic party of Hawaii’s state central committee, and Governor Abercrombie will make the final decision after that.
The appointed senator would serve two years before a special election in 2014.
