Honolulu City Councilman Ikaika Anderson wants to delay Wednesday’s vote on a measure placing limits on campaign signs.
Anderson’s bill would restrict the size of campaign signs to 3-feet by 5-feet.
In addition, homeowners would only be allowed to erect three signs that are identical.
"We’re looking at tweaking that a bit so as to meet some constitutional concerns that have come up and as well as to make the bill more palatable to more members of the community," Anderson says.
"There’s no question that if this legislation passed that it would clean-up the campaign sign clutter that’s been invading our neighborhoods for the past few elections," said Bob Loy of the Outdoor Circle.
"Right now the economy’s tough; anything that cut down on the commercial spending and the size wise it will also impact on the business," said Billy Ng, owner of Island Sign Service.
Anderson hopes the council will take a final vote on the measure during a meeting November 2, instead of Wednesday.
