City Council to discuss plan to expand Queen’s Medical Center

A plan to expand one of Oahu’s largest hospitals will be discussed at the City Council next week.

The Queen’s Medical Center has proposed a 15-year redevelopment plan, including two new towers and a parking garage.

If approved, the hospital will spend more than $100-million on the project.

"Our population here is aging and there’s increase in demand in health care services here in Hawaii," says Todd Kanja, director of engineering services. "What we’re trying to do is adjust our campus so that we’re flexible and also efficient at the same time so that we can meed the needs, the health care needs of the people of Hawaii."

Hospital officials hope to begin construction in two to three years.
