New video shows the U.S. Coast Guard sinking a Japanese vessel set adrift by last year’s tsunami.
The Coast Guard unleashed cannon fire on the abandoned vessel Thursday. It was found about 150 miles from Alaska in the Northern Pacific. Before firing crews inspected the boat to make sure it was safe to sink. The tsunami washed it away over a year ago. It’s part of a giant pack of debris heading to the U.S.
Coast Guard decided to sink it rather than risk the chance of it running aground or endangering other vessels.
