Crews remove floating heaps of trash by Ala Wai boat harbor

Crews are continuing to remove floating trash from the entrance to the Ala Wai small boat harbor near Ala Wai Boulevard bridge.

Cleanup of the debris trap began Monday at 7 a.m. Following heavy weekend rains that washed large amounts of trash down the canal from inland communities.

Crews removed four dump truck sized loads. The estimated cost of the removal for two days is $14,000.

By Tuesday most of the trash had been removed.
