The popular "Kanemitsu bakery" on Molokai has been fined by the health department.
The bakery is famous for its bread, which is distributed statewide.
In March, the health department says it found unsanitary conditions, and ordered the bakery not to sell any products until the deficiencies were corrected.
Now the bakery is being fined $90,000 dollars for selling its goods before the health department order was lifted.
"I couldn’t see why we had to stop the operation because we made the correction right then and there," says George Kanemitsu, owner.
The bakery has since reopened, with health department approval, and will be monitored.
Kanemitsu’s has 90 days to appeal the fine.
