Early morning shooting spree snarls traffic

This is a scene most of us have never seen before the H1 freeway a ghost town.

Both directions shut down after a shooting spree, just after one this morning.

Police were investigating various crime scenes from Kaimuki to the Kaamilo overpass in Aiea.

The closure started here on the H1 near Houghtailing, only one lane was open.

KSSK’s Jason Yotsuda and I tagged team to provide comprehensive coverage to motorists- and just after 630a-m was the news everyone was waiting for.

"It is open on Moanalua and H1 Ewa bound."

It might be the traffic mess heading town bound that will stick in commuters minds.

There were several factors at play- rubber necking as motorists passed by various crime scenes, the zipperlane could not be deployed because of the freeway closure, and severe weather slowed traffic down

And the problems weren’t just in West Oahu.

"This is Kahekili Highway…were getting reports of pooling on the roadway and lighting- so please be careful out there and give yourself extra travel time."

But it could have been worse…public schools and universities just got out and the Department of Transportation say there are approximately 50,000 fewer people on our roadways during summer break.
