Editorial: Honolulu Harbor must be fortified

Honolulu Harbor is critical infrastructure for our island state and a linchpin of the state’s economy: the primary conduit for food, medicines and other necessities shipped to and through Hawaii; and the central hub for import and distribution of most all shipped freight. No alternative system or port could replace this harbor if it were seriously damaged by a tsunami, hurricane or other disaster — and therefore it’s vitally important that harbor operations be maintained with disaster planning in mind.
