Editorial: Pragmatic fiscal approach a must

Hawaii is facing much uncertainty in the coming calendar year, and for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins on July 1. But there’s room for cautious stoicism, if not optimism, in the state’s ability to balance urgent needs such as aid for survivors of the 2023 Maui fire disaster against threatened reductions in federal spending over past budget cycles.
