The event attracts hundreds if not thousands of seniors wanting to expand their horizons and find out the latest information that can enhance their lives.
"It’s a very strong event," said Mike Rosell, Senior Fair. "It’s served its audience very well for a long, long time. I think it’s going to be around, maybe forever."
The Senior Fair has already been going on for 28 years and provides lots of opportunities for seniors to learn more about health, wealth and improving life.
"Well, I was anything but a senior when I started producing the event. I was kind of in my thirties, late thirties and I’ve seen it develop from an event where very elderly people who had completely retired and become committed to their senior situation would come to the event to what we have now which are baby boomers."
And as we all know by now, that is the largest growing segment of our population. The difference now, as Mike hinted, there is an evolution taking place in the aging population. More seniors – boomers – want to travel, volunteer and be active. That’s why this fair is bigger than ever.
"There are over 300 different presentations in the event and you can spend a whole weekend there and not see everything that’s going on. And it’s also amidst a lot of very enjoyable entertainment," said Rosell.
Among those entertaining, Hawaiian music legend Cyril Pahinui, this year’s Senior Fair ambassador.
"Cyril is going to be bringing his boys and performing each of the three days of the event on our main stage. He’s a wonderful man, a very iconic person in our senior community," said Rosell.
The 2012 senior fair opens next Friday, September 28 and runs through the weekend at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.
