Erosion forces move for Kauai lifeguard tower

Continued erosion along Kekaha Beach on Kauai has forced the county to relocate the Kekaha lifeguard tower to the west end of Macarthur Park.

County officials predict that increased wave activity due to passing storms could cause the shoreline to further erode.

“We will continue to monitor the situation along with our county parks department to take the necessary precautions in preserving the lifeguard tower and other facilities,” said Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman. “We will relocate the tower if and when it becomes necessary.”
