EXCLUSIVE: Dust devil rips off City Mill roof

KHON2 News has obtained exclusive surveillance video just moments before a large gust of wind blew off a portion of the City Mill store roof located on Nimitz Highway Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 3:15 p.m. The Honolulu Fire Department was called in to help secure the scene.

The gust of wind also caused a power outage for about 30 minutes to the surrounding area. Traffic lights were also out around Nimitz Highway.

A Hawaiian Electric Company spokesperson says about 100 customers lost power during that time.  The spokesperson says the outage was caused by a tarp which flew into the electrical lines.

We spoke with several City Mill employees shortly after the incident.

We’ll have their reaction and the exclusive video on the KHON2 News at 6 p.m.
