On Wednesday, the council passed a resolution accepting the full funding grant agreement of $1.5 billion in federal monies for rail.
The lone opponent of approving the money is lame duck councilman Tom Berg, who says the project is not fiscally sound.
"The issue before us is do you want the full funding grant agreement because once you take it and say yes you are locked in and what I’m saying is is, I’m not comfortable locking in," Berg said.
"We could not have come anywhere near this far and moved forward this vision of the City and County of Honolulu without many of you who’ve been supporting it from the very beginning," Mayor Peter Carlisle said.
After the vote, Mayor Carlisle thanked the council for their support.
The feds say they expect to officially sign off on the approval of the money later this month.
