Fire damages pantry and kitchen areas at Waimalu Chop Suey restaurant

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating into the cause of an early morning fire at the Waimalu Shopping Center.

HFD says the fire broke out in a storage shed near Waimalu Chop Suey just after one. The restaurant used the shed to store cooking oil. The fire spread to the pantry and kitchen areas. Sprinklers were activated and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 30 minutes.

Damage is estimated at $60,000.
