First home game of the season, tailgating highlights

Head Coach Norm Chow encouraged more students to come out and support the home team, and he definitely got what he wished for.

Students were out ready to party and watch some football.

For this first home game- students kicked off with a bang.

It wasn’t just the typical barbeques and tents going up. There were djs, dancing, and air-conditioned party trucks…keeping security busy.

For the past few years, security has been strictly enforcing the one-car per stall rule, but this year they’re also paying closer attention to underage drinking.

"We set up and the first thing they told us, if you’re under 21 you will be arrested," says Bree Foster, a UH Student.

Even the Liquor Commission came down to support stadium security and the sheriff’s department- to make their presence known.

"We have worked in the past, its been a couple years, we are taking a more active role in an intergovernmental agency cooperation," says Greg Nishioka, Liquor Commission Administrator.

Some students said all the extra enforcement was unnecessary.

"They just opened the gate and they already shutting people down. This is part of the football game," says Matthew Shishido, a UH Student.

Others said the rules are important to keeping safety and order.

"This is a parking lot, if we can do it, they can do it and we’ve been doing it for 30 years," says Candace Osora, a UH season ticket holder.

But as soon as the football team made its entrance, the new warrior walk through the parking lot and into the stadium.

His focus seemed to shift from security to the real opponent for Saturday.

"Everyone’s coming together to put a beating on Lamar," says Samuel Ohai.

Security said it is their hope to not issue any tickets or make any arrests today.

But the liquor commission said they will come to future home games on an "as-needed" basis.
