Five people are stranded across the river on Commando trail in Kailua on Maui due to extreme river conditions.
The Maui Fire Department was called at about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Because it was dark and dangerous, the rescue crew will continue to find the hikers on Monday morning. The hikers and MFD are in touch via cell phone. The hikers will be spending the night on the trail.
