Flags across the state are flying at half staff on Sunday in honor of the late representative Helene Hale.
She was elected to the state house in 2000, and served three terms, chairing the international affairs committee where she championed a more global role for Hawaii.
Sunday night friends and family gathered in Hilo at the Imiloa Astronomy Center for Hale’s memorial services.
She died February 1st at the age of 94.
