The National Weather Service has extended its flood advisory for the island of Maui until 4:45 p.m.
At 1:36 p.m. radar continued to show moderate to locally heavy showers moving over windward east Maui slopes from Haiku to Hana to Kaupo.
Stream gauges along windward east Maui are indicating elevated stream levels.
Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to Makawao, Nahiku, Keanae, and Huelo.
The public is urged to stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying ares prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action.
Forecasters say a flash flood watch is also effect for Maui beginning at 6 p.m.
