At 2:53 p.m. heavy rain was falling over windward Haleakala.
According to police, Makawao Avenue between Kokomo Road and Ke’e Road is closed. Kaupakulua Road between West Kuiaha Road and Awalau Road is also closed.
Additional heavy rainfall will move over east Maui during the next several hours.
Other locations in the warning include, but are not limited to Pukalani, Pauwela, Paia, Keanae, Hana, Haliimaile, Nahiku, Kahului, and Haiku.
A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low-lying areas.
The public is urged to move to higher ground.
The warning may need to be extended beyond 6 p.m. if flash flooding persists.
