Friends remember victim of wrong way crash

This is what Lance Miyashiro’s four-door Tacoma truck looks like now, as it sits in a tow yard off Sand Island Access Road.

"I’s just so sad that he’s gone, we’re going to miss him," says Alyssa Pacarro, Miyashiro’s co-worker at the Mai Tai bar at Ala Moana Center.

It was just before 2:30 a.m. when police say Miyashiro was driving on the H-2 freeway near the Ka Uka boulevard off-ramp, when he was hit head-on by a white BMW going the wrong way.

His family says he was coming home from working at the Mai Tai bar at Ala Moana Center.

"It was really shocking to take away someone as awesome as Lance is just heartbreaking," says Pacarro.

Police sayMmiyashiro’s truck flipped, and was hit by a second vehicle, a Jeep Liberty.

Miyashiro was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver of the BMW was critically injured, the 58 year-old driver of the Jeep Liberty suffered serious injuries.

Both were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center.

"He’s a good person you know it sucks to know an innocent person lost his life for a really really disappointing reason," says Shiloh Cabatingan, co-worker at Mai Tai bar.

The middle child of three, many describe Miyashiro as a sweet guy who was always thoughtful.

"I will remember the most when he would bring us our chocolate covered strawberries just all the holidays he was always there giving us these sweet little gifts and just his smile," says Pacarro.

"He looked out for everyone especially the workers here we were the sisters and he was our older brother," says Jessica Newalu, co-worker at Mai Tai bar.

Miyashiro was also the manager of Mililani Pets.

The store owner says Miyashiro worked there for 25 years and was like family.

"It’s tragic knowing that it could have been anyone from the bar there are many of the employees who take H-2, H-1," says Joy Ayala, co-worker at Mai Tai bar.

"He was so quiet but he was always there you always knew that he was always there in different ways like helping us and i think he’ll still be with us in that sense," says Tishanna Yabes, co-worker at Mai Tai bar.

Police say it’s unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash.
